They should've just given this guy straight trample. It's not like the ability does much anyway if you only have 1-2 power.

Good point. They could've saved off a couple sentences there for what is probably not a huge change in power level.

And make a strictly better Charging Badger!? Don't forget that this guy needs to get to 4 power to get the trample and playing another 4 power creature isn't trivially easy. I do kind of like having a target threshold to reach in order to get the ability but I see what you are saying.

Well it also means you have to work for what they wanted instead of just being able to Giant Growth it and pass the 4/4 threshold.

This card might actually see constructed play, so the "three counters" threshold might have been added for balance reasons. I agree that the design would be much cleaner if it just had trample, but I'm willing to assume they had a good reason.
