I've fallen in love with banefire. So, I've gone ahead and put together a big-burning banefire deck. That should give control some headaches...

Lands (24)
1 Arch of Orazca
1 Field of Ruin
4 Spirebluff Canal
14 Mountain
4 Sulfur Falls

Creatures (1)
1 Squee, the Immortal

Planeswalkers (7)
3 Chandra, Torch of Defiance
2 Karn, Scion of Urza
2 Jaya Ballard

Enchantments (2)
2 The Mirari Conjecture

Artifacts (6)
4 Powerstone Shard
2 Treasure Map

Instants (4)
4 Abrade

Sorceries (16)
3 Fight with Fire
2 Hour of Devastation
4 Sweltering Suns
3 Jaya's Immolating Inferno
4 Banefire

Ok, so the main issue atm is the ballance of instants/sorceries, I should be playing more instants with Magma Spray/shock/shivan fire and some lightning strikes too, but I need to test which sorceries work best before deciding what to cut.
Squee is a chumper and an extra way of turning on the Immolating Inferno, although I'm unsure if it's necessary.

And then, all that's left is: die control player, die!

Why not Hazoret instead of squee?

Also the Mirari thing is tempting but probably win-more at best, and at worst a waste of resources best spent on ultimating Jaya.

Well Hazoret can be countered/exiled. Squee is pretty irrelevant on his own, but the only card that can stop him is Ixalan’s Binding.
The Mirari Conjectures are actually for recurring your spells (sometimes you need an extra sweeper), but as a finisher blow, 2x uncounterable, unpreventable banefires sounds sweet.

I've been playing around with a pre-update build to get a feel for the deck and here's where I'm at atm:

Land (24)
2 x Island
13 x Mountain
1 x Arch of Orazca
1 x Spirebluff Canal
4 x Sulfur Falls
3 x Highland Lake

Planeswalkers (6) - Open board? Drop a walker and reap the value. It's superburnfriends!
2 x Jaya Ballard
2 x Karn, Scion of Urza
2 x Chandra, Torch of Defiance

Big Burn Spells/Win cons (6) - Boom!
3 x Jaya's Immolating Inferno
4 x Fight with Fire

Removal/Sweepers (11) - Ballista look out of place? It's basically another burn spell...
2 x Magma Spray
2 x Abrade
2 x Walking Ballista
3 x Sweltering Suns
2 x Hour of Devastation

Draw/Filtering/Recursion (7) - Big burn needs big draw
2 x Pull from Tomorrow
2 x Treasure Map
1 x Search for Azcanta
2 x The Mirari Conjecture

For Emergencies (1) - Saved my neck vs gift already
1 x Blink of an Eye

Counters (4) - A necessary evil
2 x Essence Scatter
2 x Negate

It's funny how often players bail when they see 2+ walkers on a clear board.
I've been having some fun with this pile. For example, I really enjoyed burning 2 consecutive verdurou gearhulks with immolating infernos and fight with fires and then dealt lethal with another 10 point fight with fire the turn after. Big critters aren't really safe vs this deck's burn... Except for ghalta (I did lose one game to that annoying thing and a rhonas... Hour of devastion didn't show up in time).
There's nothing like a huge burn spell to face and both the inferno and fight with fire are excellent value if you've got the mana for it.

It is!
I'm still learning how to best pilot it and still tuning, but it's working pretty well so far. It may need some graveyard hate though, because Scarab gods are hard to deal with as are other recursive threats.
Worst match-up was my first game with the deck: Uw embalm/lifegain tokens (main reason I brought in counterspells).

What did you change? I'd love to hear your feedback and suggestions.

Btw, one thing people expect when they see blue mana is counterspells. I usually bluff by leaving up counter mana and it usually works (especially if you do counter something early).

I went full Ballistas and If I had another search for Azcanta I would slam that too. If you hold your counter and nothing happens you can plus the Ballistas or use the flipped side of search. Another big change was Pheonix

This is the pile ATM:
2 x Magma Spray
4 x Abrade
2 x Sweltering Suns
3 x Fight with Fire
2 x Jaya's Immolating Inferno
4 x Walking Ballista

1 x Search for Azcanta
2 x Negate
2 x Essence Scatter
2 x Blink of an Eye
2 x Pull from Tomorrow
2 x The Mirari Conjecture

2 x Jaya Ballard
3 x Chandra, Torch of Defiance
3 x Rekindling Phoenix

4 x Sulfur Falls
2 x Spirebluff Canal
2 x Memorial to Genius
11 x Mountain
5 x Island

Importable pile
Spoiler

You know what is ridiculous?
Oath of Teferi (I noticed Watching legenvd playing superfriends singleton. It was bonkers).
So, I made a Jeskai version, adding 1 teferi and 1 Oath. PWs with an Oath on the board are ridiculous. Jaya makes 6 mana, Chandra 4, teferi draws 2 cards and untaps 4 land, Karn gets you both cards for 0... Not to mention 2 turn clocks for ultimate...
Shame there isn't really any synergy for the blink effect.
Last game I played against selesnya Cats, I had all 4 walkers on the board with the Oath... It was just too much for opp, he scooted.
I may add dovin too and call the deck lady jaya and friends.

It's probably bad and Banefire is ofc better, but our job is being janky. What about a monored ramp control with Apex of Power as top end? Ramp by Chandra and Jaya, control by burn spells.

Deck does ok... I've gone back to the izzet version and I'm running 4 Ballistas.
Banefire is only good against counter-based control, against other decks, the Immolating Infernos and fight with fire are much better and more efficient.
I'm running 4 fight, 2 Infernos and 1 Banefire atm. The deck struggle with mono-green if they can drop ghalta and Rhonas and Scarab god is troublesome. Red aggro is tough too if you lose too much life early on as they can just burn you out.
It usually eats mid-range for breakfast and can hold it's own against control.
