The movie's not really based on the book, so much as written by somebody who has definitely read the book.

I could say many things about both movies and the books but instead I'll leave with this cryptic message.

Humble Bundle has a pretty cool Pathfinder bundle right now for anybody that wants to get into RPGs.

If you want to get into RPGs, you really shouldn't start with Pathfinder. Go with 5E at the very least if you want a popular fantasy system.
You also shouldn't transition into Pathfinder at any point thereafter.

I could maybe see getting it for setting inspiration.

Starting at $1, it's worth it just to raid for ideas. At higher donation levels there are also campaigns, monster manuals &etc to pour over.
Is 5th ed a major improvement over 3/3.5?

5th is really, really simple, comparatively.

It's a nice take on the game.

Short answer: Yes.
Long answer: Whether or not it's an improvement depends on what you want out of the game. The major contribution 5E provides is a more streamlined and fluid experience. You don't spend as much time juggling conditional modifiers, looking up rules and looking at it as a mechanical framework. It emphasizes a greater sense of freedom with storytelling more in the forefront, although it is still a D&D and therefore has a large inherent focus on combat. Some find that 5E therefore feels a bit shallow compared to the vast number of character options that 3.5 presents with all its interlocking systems.

Is it fairly easy to convert 3rd ed materials to 5th?

uhhh
idk? Like, the flavor is mostly the same, but if you want to play a pact summoner, a totemist, an initator class or your favorite prestige class or whatever really badly, then you'll have to get homebrewing.

Ah, I figured as much. I was hoping there were at least rules of thumb to convert stats to their inter-edition equivalents.

"inter-edition equivalents"- I like that.

ah! guh. disgusted, dismayed, unsurprised. gawker (RIP) reported much of this years ago, and his behavior was an open secret in the industry.

still though in college i admired his work a great deal and being outside of the comedy rumor mill specifically and the Discourse generally at the time, i looked up to him. here, i thought, is someone who has squared his raging anxieties into a package fit for distribution. self-deprecating, funny, charming, frank. a formula i try to follow still today. gah! role models.

i don't know if you read the statement he released today -- it expressed remorse without apology, tonally hand-stuck-in-the-cookie-jar. to answer your question, what do i think? i don't know what to think. this is just another example of a FUBAR culture from head to toe. it's another reminder to be a better BF to my GF, a better man to the women in my life, a better human, better son, better brother, etc. it sucks. demoralizing

I think it is very unfortunate that this behavior is apparently more common in Hollywood than we (or at least I) considered. I never watched or have really seen his work, but my friends have told me what is surprising is not that sexual misconduct occurred, but how odd the actual act was.

I kinda disagree with JV; C.K.'s admission of guilt is more honest and genuinely apologetic than I thought it would be. It is nondeflective and very straightforward, which is more than we've gotten with past celebrities in regards to their deviant escapades (although setting the bar there feels bad). Its hard to see an apology like this as genuine given the context, but I think what we got is as close to genuine as we could have gotten.

Then again th is could have been just really good PR, its hard to differentiate nowadays.
Here are some things I got from this story:
    * he apparently did this several times to various women
    * He tried to privately reach out to these women to apologize
    * In the past, this issue was brought up, but he skirted around the topic - whether this was because the evidence then wasn't as concrete as the evidence now, or because of another reason can't really be proven. Defending him or attacking him here imo would just be pointless conjecture.

Tl;dr: what he did to those women was horrible. While I personally think his apology is authentic, I also think its hard to determine for sure, and it does not take away what he did.

Here's his statement:

@malikot i agree with you to the extent that his statement, as an admission of guilt, was honest and genuine. but as an apology i think the consensus is that it falls short by virtue of "ctrl+f 'sorry' 0/0"
