I wasn't referring to their ignorance, I was referring to their choice to see the world around them as being miraculous.

the real issue with the song isn't the magnets line, it's the one that comes right after: "And I don't wanna talk to a scientist/Y'all mother******s lying, and getting me pissed". that's the sentiment people took issue with, and it's why I think it's unreasonable to assume that the magnets line is about anything deeper than surface understanding: the sentiment of actively rejecting any real attempt to answer these questions runs through the entire song. like, yes, if you take the magnets line in isolation you can do some handwaving about how if you drill down deep enough we don't actually know, but the rest of the song makes it pretty clear that that's not the level they're talking about. (also, I don't think it's a particularly interesting or useful point, since it's true of pretty much everything ever. we have pretty solid models for how magnets work down to a fairly granular level, but with any piece of knowledge except debatably pure mathematics, if you keep asking "why?" long enough you'll eventually get to an "I don't know". that's not deep, it's epistemology 101.)

I don't really have anything against ICP, but this whole "Miracles is actually really deep and meaningful if you look at it" stance requires not actually looking at it very closely.

I am not a fan of the anti-scientific sentiment of the song although I really really really like the song and the message i think it sends. Its a song about how beautiful and amazing and wonderful the world is and seeing the kind of raw wonder in all of the little things that surround us. Its a sentiment that I really appreciate and the way they express it is, to me, really evocative. I wouldn't call it "deep" at all because its a pretty simple and old idea but i do really like it.

yeah, I'm all in favor of that message, I just think that Miracles is a poor vehicle for it.
