The Rules

How To Nominate:
Quote the post with the card you want to nominate. Delete everything in that post other than the card. Copy and paste your quote into a post on this thread.
If you did it right the quote tag should link to the original post.

What's Eligible?
Any fan-designed M:TG card posted since the most recent CotW thread went live is eligible. It doesn't even have to be the first time the card was posted. Yes, Un cards are valid. No, Yugioh cards are not.

What's Not Eligible?
  • Nominating your own cards. You can only nominate cards by other people
  • Nominating a card from your own repost, regardless of whether or not the original post was yours.
  • Nominations that result from collusion. If a nomination is made in exchange for some sort of favour, or under some sort of threat, then the nomination is void.
  • Cards that have already won CotW are not eligible for future CotWs.
  • Nominations that I consider to be jokes or trolling.

A Note On Contests:
Many contest holders feel that having an entrant nominated for CotW will skew the results of their contest. To prevent this while still allowing those cards their chance at nomination, any card submitted to a contest is eligible for nomination to CotW as though the date the contest (or pertinent round of the contest) ended was the date the card was posted.

How do you enforce the reveal on Return the Dead to Death

Like what's stopping them from just saying "nope that's not the creature i picked better luck next time"

Secretly choosing is fine (you just write it down or whatever) but how do you unambiguously refer to one Saproling token or another in writing, when six turns later they might have been rearranged multiple times, or removed and replaced with new tokens?

Basically your opponent needs to keep track of every single creature that you might have chosen just to keep you from cheating. It's a mess to play with.

Write it down on a piece of paper face down in defense mode and show it to the judge. Mtgo also has it covered. Outside of that, not sure. Maybe flip a coin and if they call it correctly, reveal your choice. Or roll a d6 and on a result of up to 6 - the number of creatures that died since the card came out?

Writing your choice down doesn't do anything unless you also put a unique label on each creature that exists when you play the Saga. Having a judge doesn't help unless they carefully watch your game for six turns. It wouldn't really scale for most tournaments. :)

Phylactery is the best card this week.

Card sleeves. Opponent writes something on a small piece of paper. Opponent turns away, you put it in a sleeve as judge watches. Reveal from sleeve each time. Tedious, but possible. I'd prefer just flip a coin to reveal each time. If multiple permanents on battlefield with same name, number them at time of casting and write number of specific one as well.

Actually, just have it have a 50% chance to be destroyed whenever any creature you control leaves the battlefield. Or 25% if any creature leaves (2 coin tosses) if you want to stay with that version.

I love the Phylactery because it's got really good flavor and does something that you usually associate with green or black (a big, unkillable creature / a creature that keeps coming back) in a really blue way. Plus it uses the legendary supertype in a really creative way~

Exile target creature. (You may cast a legendary instant only if you control a legendary creature or planeswalker.)

Search your library for a basic land card and put it on the battlefield tapped. Then, if you control a Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest, untap all lands you control.
I have seen the Felds of Alcorran, the Isles of Hemdor, the Bogs of Swive, the Peaks of Duroc, and the mighty oaks of the Elish Trail. Only now do I understand the world.

Please add the shuffle the library clause. Accidentally left it off! See below:

Starting with you, each player names a different card. Then each player reveals his or her hand. Each player who named a card in another player's hand draws a card. Then if no cards in a player's hand were named, that player draws a card.
All questions demand answers, and all answers yield questions.
