Till the Land
Instant
Exile target land card from a graveyard. Create a colorless Forest land token that's tapped.
Retrace

So I was inspired by UC's Rakdos Memecaller to make fun of Mudhole, but it actually turned out to be decent with some tweaking.

Why doesn't it just put the said land onto the battlefield tapped under your control? Lands tokens are fiddly.

Also, this might cause some arguments in that I don't think you can target the land you discard to this card's retrace cost, which makes sense powerwise even though it's still quite strong even without that interaction.

How 'bout this?

Till the Land
Sorcery
Exile target land card from a graveyard. If that land is a Forest, instead return it to the battlefield tapped under your control.
Retrace

You would be able to target the land from Retrace. The discard is part of the cost and it would be in the graveyard when the spell resolves.

Targets are chosen before costs are paid, so you can't do that. https://blogs.magicjudges.org/rules/cr601/

Ah, true enough. You are correct.

Land token because searching for a Forest involves shuffling, which WotC seems to want to cut back on for time-saving purposes (see reason for Sensei's Divining Top ban in Modern and Legacy).

For land tokens, they would be considered nonbasic lands with the same name as a basic land. If they have a basic land type, they would already have that basic land type's mana ability.

The only caveat I would add is possibly a basic supertype to the token to prevent confusion.

Purple's solution also sidesteps the shuffling issue. You wouldn't be able to ramp by targeting non-Forests, but if you're running this in a deck that supports double costs (frequently if you want to retrace it), then I suspect it's not a huge deal.
Heck, Purple's version wouldn't lose much if it was restricted to only targeting Forests.
